Many thanks to Emily Rimland, information literacy librarian at Penn State University Libraries for sharing these tips on finding answers to your research questions!

Librarians at Penn State are like physicians. Just as there are doctors who specialize in certain areas like orthopedics, pediatrics, and dermatology, there are librarians who specialize in the disciplines of study offered at Penn State such as criminal justice, children’s literature, and nursing.

Our subject specialist librarians are great partners when it comes to doing research in your major or for a general education class where you may not know much about the topic.

So how do you find these experts? There are a few ways:

• We have a comprehensive list of specialists by major – feel free to get in touch with them about your research needs.

• You can check out our Research Guides by Subject for resources about a topic as well as the contact info for the specialist of that subject.

Still not sure who the specialist is? Not to worry – just use our information triage service, also known as the Ask! Service. Simply submit a question by chat or email or give us a call for research help.

No matter how bad the case, our specialists are here to help with your information needs. You don’t have to suffer from research aches and pains any longer!
