Meet World Campus alum Michael McNamara from New York, who graduated with his bachelor’s degree in turfgrass science. During his time with World Campus, Michael won The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) Mendenhall Award, the Trans-Mississippi Vickers Award and numerous academic scholarships.
Michael is a member of the Pi Delta Chi chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda–America’s only chapter-based honor society celebrating the scholarship and leadership of full- and part-time undergraduate adult learners.
What is the most rewarding part about being a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda?
I got poor grades in high school and my first attempt at college. My father always told me I could get good grades if I put in the effort required, and he was right.
What is the biggest lesson that you’ve learned while being a student?
School doesn’t give you all of the answers; it teaches you how to find them.
What advice would you give to other students?
It is never too late to get an education. My first attempt at college was in 1990, and I didn’t take it seriously. Finishing my bachelor’s degree is the best decision I have ever made.
What is the best part about being a Penn Stater?
The respect that comes from peers within my industry.
