Four Quick Tips to Kick off the Summer Semester

With the new semester right around the corner, now is the time to begin getting prepared. From completing registration to arranging a proctor, check out a few tips World Campus staff members had to share to make sure you’re ready.

  1. Know how Summer Student Aid Works

As summer tuition bills come due, remember that student aid works differently in the summer than in fall or spring. You’ll need to think about whether you have aid remaining, requesting summer aid on eLion, current loan fees, and your eligibility based on Satisfactory Academic Progress standards. Also, most student aid refunds cannot be generated until July.  Remember, World Campus does not offer book vouchers, so come prepared to purchase your materials. –Sarah Zipf, Manager, World Campus and Continuing Education Office of Student Aid

  2. Make Proctor Arrangements if Your Courses Require Proctored Exams

If any of your courses require proctored exams, plan ahead and make your proctor arrangements. You’ll need to know the procedures for taking exams and securing a proctor, including who can serve as a proctor and how to get a proctor approved, and you’ll want to have your proctor plans in place before exam time. –Renee Gummo, Records Manager, World Campus and Continuing Education

  3. Protect Your Computer

Penn State provides free antivirus protection to students. You can download Symantec Endpoint Protection and other useful programs by visiting the ITS website. You will need to use your Penn State UserID and password to log in. –Steve Welshonse, manager of the World Campus and Continuing Education HelpDesk

  4. Complete your registration.

Complete your registration by paying your tuition bill or confirming your financial aid arrangements. This important step is required to finalize your registration for the semester, and if you do not do so, you may be cancelled from your courses and financial and other implications may apply. You can schedule courses and pay your bill in eLionSee our step-by-step instructions for more information. –Jan Mellon, Registrar, World Campus and Continuing Education
