World Campus student Christina Furister was diagnosed with cancer at 14, and survived in part from support of the Four Diamonds Fund and funds raised by Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, more fondly known to Penn Staters as “THON.” Christina shared her story on our most recent episode of PawCast, from her initial diagnosis at 14 to learning from her doctors that she was cancer free.
At Penn State, February is dedicated to THON, so join us as we discuss one of the University’s biggest and most respected traditions. THON is the largest student-organized philanthropy in the world with the goal of raising funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. This annual fundraising effort has donated over $89 million to the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.
Christina shares her unique perspective of what THON means to her as a cancer survivor and former Four Diamonds child. Her emotional story details her experience of being diagnosed with leukemia at 14 and her fight to beat cancer.
Listen as Christina discusses the great impact THON and the Four Diamonds Fund have had on her life as a result of the assistance she received over the years. She shares a number of personal anecdotes, including:
