Meet the Blue & White Society Executive Board (Part 1 of 2)

A month ago, World Campus students in the World Campus chapter of the Blue & White Society elected into office their first executive board. Here’s your chance to get to know the board a bit more. In this post, you can learn about president Clayton Brumbaugh and vice president Wendy Weidman. You can also learn more about the other executive board members in a different post.

My hope for the board over the coming year

To build a strong foundation of active students that choose to participate because it is fun and rewarding.

What I love about Penn State

The Football is AWESOME! Also, watching the games with other alumni is great, too! Even though I have only been to one live game, when I talk about PSU, people always mention JoePa as if I know him personally!

What you might not know about me

My last name is the same as a one of the residence halls on campus. I enrolled at Penn State because of the reputation and the online program. I found Brumbaugh Hall on my first visit to Penn State on All University Day in 2010, when we lost to Iowa in the pouring rain and sleet. I was so bummed, until I saw the Brumbaugh Hall.  I called my uncle and cousin in Seattle (it was 1:00 a.m. their time), and he said, yes, Martin Brumbaugh was our ancestor!

Fact 2: My girlfriend is an Iowa Hawkeye. Sometimes I have to watch Hurkey the Hawkeye at 9:00 am on Saturday  morning — ugh!

My hope for the board over the coming year

Getting our members to feel that they are an actual, important part of the Penn State family.

It is easy to feel that you are alone and cut off while taking classes in an online forum, so it is important that our members know that there are so many people out there just like them and all willing to communicate to make our experience a great one!  I am hoping that we can set up some areas, such as a directory and a forum for World Campus students to communicate, share, and get to know each other.

What I love about Penn State

I have one of the most amazing advisers, Margaret Hammond.  She has truly made this such a wonderful experience for me.  I’ve also made some great friends through my classes and through the Facebook forum.  (By the way, I am always happy to communicate with any of our members so please feel free to contact me on Facebook).

I’m also very excited about the new ice hockey program at Penn State.  I am a die-hard hockey fan and I currently play as a goaltender for a men’s league.

What you might not know about me

  • I am a die-hard hockey fan, particularly the Pittsburgh Penguins.
  • I was a police officer for twelve years and it was an interesting experience since I was the first and only female officer.  I also served as a Military Police officer in the PA Army National Guard prior to Iraq. (That’s the only clue to this lady’s age!)
  • I am hoping to get my law degree after finishing my undergrad in Criminal Justice.
  • I have a 12 year old son that is the light of my life!
